X, formerly Twitter, initiates government ID verification for paid users

  • The new identification system partners with Au10tix for identity verification and is aimed at deterring impersonation.
  • Despite being available in many countries, the system is currently unavailable in European Union, UK, and EEA due to strict data protection laws.
  • The ID verification gives ‘prioritized support’, allows frequent profile changes without losing the checkmark, and is only offered to paid users for now.
