The device bears the name of Xiaomi’s flagship device, and the company is infact positioning it as a flagship smartphone, albeit it’s missing a key things.
The Mi 4i comes packing not the latest Qualcomm 800 series chip, but the 64-bit Snapdragon 615, which used 4 cores clocked at 1.7GHz, and another 4 cores clocked at 1.1GHz. The processor is coupled to 2GB of RAM and the devices ships with 16GB of onboard storage.
The face of the device is made up of a 5-inch 1080p display that’s manufactured by Sharp/JDI, which is protected by Corning’s OGS glass. Also housed at the front of the device is a 5MP f/1.8 camera that should handle all selfie duties.
One thing Xiaomi has skimped on is build, and the Mi 4i unlike its larger sibling doesn’t feature a metal rim and glass back. The new device comes with a machined plastic unibody instead, housing a 13MP primary camera at the rear and speaker grille.
Further, the Mi 4i gets a large 3,120mAh battery, while connectivity options include dual-SIM 4G support, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.1 LE. In terms of software, the Mi 4i is the first device from Xiaomi to run on Android 5.0 Lollipop, with the company proprietary MiUi 6 layer on top.
The company also launched the much awaited fitness tracker, MiBand at the event, and announced that buyers of the Mi 4i will get one for absolutely free. Registrations for the Mi 4i open at 8pm today on Flipkart, while the device will soon be available with Xiaomi’s other partner sellers.
