The wait for Xiaomi’s flagship Mi4 smartphone is finally over. The Chinese giant has launched the device in India at Rs 19,999, which will go on sale via a flash sale on February 10. Registrations to purchase the device will start from 6pm on January 28, exclusively via Fliplkart.
Xiaomi Mi4
The device made it debut in China mid last year, but that shouldn’t douse expectations of it being a smash hit in India. Compared to the Chinese launch however, the Mi4 in India does away with support for high-speed LTE bands, is available only in a 16GB variant and only in the white shade.
The Mi4 features a relatively small 5-inch FullHD (1080x1920p) IPS display with a pixel density of 441 PPI. The device is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon 801 SoC, coupled to 3GB of RAM, putting it in contention with devices like Samsung’s Galaxy S5, HTC’s One (M8) and Motorola’s Moto X (2nd gen).
At the rear, the Mi4 houses a 13MP primary camera which has the capability of recording video in 4K, while an 8MP snapper up-front should please selfie lovers. In terms of software the device runs on Android 4.4.3, with Xiaomi’s proprietary MIUI OS skin on top. Internal storage stands at 16GB, but lacks a microSD card. Powering all that hardware is a 3,080 mAh battery.
Xiaomi has already become the leading smartphone vendor in its home market of China, and is now looking to take on giants Apple and Samsung in overseas markets. India is already the company’s second largest global market, and apart from launching new products to grow sales, the company aims to increase the number of service centres from the current 5 to 100 by the end of 2015.
