In what could be the largest data breach in history, Yahoo has reported that the company’s databases were breached in 2013, affecting over 1 billion user accounts. The company said it’s a different breach from the one it disclosed in September, when it said 500 million accounts were exposed.
Yahoo, which earlier this year agreed to sell its digital operations to Verizon Communications for $4.8 billion, blamed the late 2014 attack on a hacker affiliated with an unidentified foreign government. The company said it hasn’t been able to identify the source behind the 2013 intrusion.
According to media reports, Yahoo’s massive breach could affect their deal with Verizon.
