It begins with a glimpse or a passing thought. It ends in obsession.

Is your life too-organized? Are you just okay with whats happening in life? Do you still have a desire to tread the unknown? Or have you put that in the dark closets of your self?

Well, most of us prefer to play safe and not look beyond the obvious..! We try to keep ourselves content with whater we have…and in the process, lose sight of our Destiny!!

Atleast I do.

In The Zahir, Coelho shakes you up and leads you to ask yourself Whats my obsession? Whats my greater truth?

In search of Destiny, you will often find yourself obliged to change direction

The Zahir is a perfect follow-up of Alchemist. It picks up from the point where Alchemist ends. (but that doesnt necessarily mean that you should have read Alchemist before reading Zahir. But I do suggest you to read Alchemist too !!)

Zahir, in arabic means means Obsession, a thing, which completely fills your mind, and you cant think of anything but that thing..!!

This is a state of holiness as well as a state of madness!!..We all have our own Zahir, but many of us have simply ignored our Zahir.
And instead chose to stay happy with the status quo..!!

Atleast I do.

With The Zahir Paulo demonstrates his insights into the different possibilities of life..the purpose..

Please note that this is not a self-help-book. Its all about unravelling your Zahir and follow the path..

Story/Plot
———————
‘The Zahir revolves around the unnamed narrators search for his missing wife..
The narrator of this book stays in France, lives a comfortable life, is a best seller novelist too (gets a grrrand money out of the royalties ).

Like everybody else, he too believes that he is happy with his marriage..and there is nothing majorly wrong..

Life goes on until one day the narrator finds Esther, his wife (a war correspondent) missing!! She leaves him without even telling him!!

Was she kidnapped?murdered? (well, she was a war correspondent), or eloped? (with the guy called Mikhail, she used to talk about)?

And then the search begins. The narrator meets Mikhail, who promises to take him to Esther.

What begins as search for his wife turns into a journey into his own soul.

Before I could find her, I must first find myself.

Written in a typical Coelhos style, this is a must read for those who, like me, are still exploring the self..who are still fighting the fear of failure!..And are still pursuing our Zahir!

Author introduces the beautiful concept of Acomodador i.e. the giving-up point; the event in our lives that is responsible for us failing to progress…

Be it pursuing a hobby (like writing reviews on MS) or be being an expert billiards/snooker player, I have always felt a moment when I tell myself This is it..I cant improve beyond this point!

The same happens in marriages/relationships too…Instead of working to make the marriage successful, a point comes when each one simply gives up on the other person..and says Its all about getting used to the day 2 day fights..Forget it. I am not gonna try…

But one should go beyond this point, and conquer the acomodador point — in order to find ones Zahir!!

Now, its Trivia time!!
———————–

> In order to prevent Piracy, Iran announced that they will be the first country to print copies of Zahir (even before Brazil)!!

> After the release of the book, Iranian officials pulled all copies of the book and banned the book!!!

> To an extent, the book is Coelhos autobiographiy too!! (well, thats what Coelho
says)

My advice:
——————-
This should not be a bedtime reading..There are hidden messages and are left to ones interpretation. So stay awake. And Look for your Zahir.

My favorite Coelho quotes:
—————–

We are heading towards a point where things are becoming too comfortable, where love stops creating problems and confrontations and becomes instead merely a solution..

It is always important to know when something has reached its end..Closing circles, shutting doors, finishing chapters, it doesnt matter what we call it; what matters is to leave in the past those moments in life that are over.

Stop being who you were and become what you are!!

The wise are wise only because they love. The fool are fools only because they think they can understand love.

Waiting is painful. Forgetting is painful. But not knowing which to do is the worse kind of suffering.
