Fear is a natural emotion and can be beneficial in certain situations. However, it’s important to remain in control of our fears and not let them control us. Building bravery and willpower through small actions can help us to overcome our fears and take back the power.

Discovering Our Inner Hero

Albert Camus famously said, “In the middle of a winter, I discovered within me an invincible summer.” What he meant was that we all have a hero within us, a great bravery that we must tap into.

Doing things that make us feel uncomfortable or awkward helps us to build our willpower, grow our bravery and take back the power from what we fear.

Micro Acts of Bravery

To develop bravery and willpower, we must start with small tasks.

This could include getting up for a morning walk at a specific time, drinking water when we don’t feel like it, reading a book instead of scrolling through social media late at night or holding back from criticizing at work.

Through these micro acts of difficulty each day, we exercise our bravery and gradually become stronger.

Mindful Thinking & Feeling

In addition to doing difficult things every day, we must also become mindful of our thoughts and feelings.

If we feel like we’re not brave enough to do something, acknowledge it but don’t give in to it.

Remind yourself that you are capable and you can do it – this may be difficult but you can get through it.
