Over 1.75 crore applications have been filed under India’s Right to Information Act (RTI) since its implementation in October 2005, with one-fourth requests being to the Centre. That’s a staggering 4,800 applicants each day, according to a study conducted by Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI). 27% of queries were received by the centre. Maharashtra (26.40% applications) and Karnataka (11.83% applications) received most information request applications among the states.
