Samsung’s Android phone users often complain about not having the latest Android operating system, and why not, Samsung doesn’t have a very good track record when it comes to rolling out updates for its phones. The method deployed by the company uses their own proprietary software Kies, a real pain to use. Samsung has received a lot of flak for delaying the Froyo update, but the recent tie up with Google on the Nexus S device seems to have helped Samsung a lot. After rolling out the world’s first Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) phone, Samsung is now ready to roll out the software update to a range of devices in its Galaxy line of devices. Samsung in a press release officially announced Android 2.3 Gingerbread for its Galaxy line of phones today.
Android 2.3 Gingerbread brings a lot of improvement over its predecessor Froyo. Gingerbread has faster performance , fully supports Abode Flash Player in the browser, and enhanced support for 3D graphics. The update also brings an improved user interface with support for system wide copy and paste functionality. Android users have forever complained about the poor performance of their phone batteries, Gingerbread is set to bring huge battery improvement. Users that have installed leaked versions of the update have reported nearly 50% increase in battery life.
Although it did confirm that the updates are coming, it did not specify any dates. The Galaxy S and Tab will receive updates first, followed by other phones in mid-May, starting from UK and Nordic countries and gradually to other European markets, North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, Africa and the rest of the world according to regional plan.
