326.4 million domain names registered in the first quarter of 2016: Verisign

Verisign, a global leader in domain names and internet security, has released its first quarter report, and it reveals that the worldwide domain registrations have reached 326.4 million across all top-level domains (TLDs) as of March 31, 2016. That is 12 million more than the number at the end of the previous quarter, representing a 3.8% increase in 90 days.

Worldwide registrations have grown by 32.4 million, or 11%, year over year.

The .com and .net TLDs experienced aggregate growth in the first quarter of 2016, reaching a combined total of approximately 142.5 million .com and .net domain names in the domain name base. As of March 31, 2016, the base of registered names in .com equaled 126.6 million names, while .net equaled 15.9 million names

The latest DNIB also reveals that New .com and .net registrations totaled 10 million during the first quarter of 2016, with Verisign processing 10 million new domain name registrations for .com and .net, as compared to 8.7 million domain names for the same period in 2015.
